Inspiration
Never Too Late is a song of inspiration for anybody who feels like life has passed them by. The song was inspired by a woman I met at church who had an amazing voice. But she got busy with life, and found that she had put her dreams aside for the sake of others, especially her children. But the love of music never left her, and so she sang. But not for glory, and instead to feel that warmth in her soul. I imagined a world that never heard Karen Carpenter or Whitney Houston. Also, I wanted Grace to only be concerned about singing to herself. Her life had not been wasted at all, because God gave her a beautiful voice and she was now ready to sing out loud.
[Verse 1]
Grace escaped high school with no plan
No college, no trade, no helping hand
Took a job just to pay the rent
Told herself it was only ‘til she found what “living” meant
But days turned to years, and the temp turned to fate
Three kids in the backseat, and it’s getting late
She stares in the mirror and whispers low,
“Where did the dream go?”
[Pre-Chorus]
And she wonders if the train’s long gone
If the music only plays for the young
But the heart doesn’t care how old you are
When it plays like a rhythm hummed
[Chorus]
It’s never too late to dance in the rain
To pick up the pieces and start again
To find that spark, to light that flame
You’ve still got chapters left to name
It’s never too late, no it’s never too late
[Verse 2]
She used to sing in her childhood room
Songs that made the whole world bloom
She traded melodies for midnight shifts
For baby bottles, bills, and what-if’s
But now she hums while folding clothes
And something in her starts to glow
She dares to dream in secret still—
Oh what's over that next hill
[Pre-Chorus]
She wonders if her chance is done
If dreams expire when the hard years come
But the soul doesn’t care how long it sleeps
If it wakes with a steady drumbeat
[Chorus]
It’s never too late to dance in the rain
To pick up the pieces and start again
To find that spark, to light that flame
You’ve still got chapters left to name
It’s never too late, no it’s never too late
[Bridge]
Some dreams hide but never fade
They wait for courage, not a stage
And when the world says “settle down”
Your heart might shout, “Not now, not now”
[Chorus – Lifted]
It’s never too late to leap and fall
To chase the echo of that call
To write your story, sing out loud
No matter where or when or how
It’s never too late to live unchained
To throw your doubts into the flame
You’re still becoming, every day
It’s never too late
It’s never too late
[Outro]
So Grace picks up the song she shelved
Starts to sing for no one else
She hasn’t missed her fate—
It’s never too late
